The itinerary

In order, for a reason

01

La MalincheSummit

4,461 M

The warm-up. A non-technical ascent used to test gear, pace the group, and get everyone's legs under them before the altitude gets serious.

02

Refugio Otis McAllisterAcclimatization camp

4,694 M

A night at altitude on the shoulder of Iztaccíhuatl, at the base of the retreating Ayoloco glacier. This is where bodies adjust before the technical climbs begin.

03

IztaccíhuatlSummit

5,230 M

Known as "La Mujer Dormida." The route to the summit — "El Pecho" — crosses terrain shaped by a glacier that, at this rate, won't outlast the decade.

04

Pico de OrizabaSummit — final objective

5,636 M

Citlaltépetl to the Aztecs. The highest peak in Mexico and the third-highest in North America — and the reason the first three stops exist.
